52CCT-Theme Christmas Music

When I saw this theme, I knew exactly what I was going to do.  Lucky I had the pieces to put it together!

It looks like the Carolers are singing to "someone" at the front door.

I have the Carolers positioned so she is to the back and the two boys have pop dots behind them so they are slightly to the front.  I needed to ground them somehow so I added snow under them.

Inside:

"The Best Way to spread Christmas Cheer

Is singing loud for all to hear"

3 Dimensional Tree Card

I love purples and blues on a Christmas card because I think they give off the sense of cold.  In my neck of the woods, we do have cold during that time and I love it!

No stamping on this card.  Just die cutting.

I die cut 3 sets of trees and used Distress Oxide with a blending brush to get a two-tone color the trees.  I also used the same colors to do the background of the base.

First layer, which was the tallest trees in the back, was glued down, Next layer, was popped up with skinny pop dots. Last layer had a thicker pop dots.  It gives each set of trees dimension.

I wanted the very front (deer and Merry Christmas) to be the deeper purple but the Merry Christmas blended in too much.  I had a deeper purple Glitter so I used that and wrote over the top of it.

I tried to make Bokeh circles like the photo below by using water, the eraser part of a pencil and a dropper  to get smaller dots on the base background.

52 CCT May Colour Challenge-Christmas Wreath

 Brown, Green, Red

That was a hard color combo to come up with for Christmas card and the only thing that stuck in my mind was this wreath, so I went for it.

I used white cardstock and cut two wreaths.  Before I glued them together, I randomly colored the twigs with the copic markers to give them a two tone look.

I glued everything down and punched a bunch of red circles from scrap red glitter paper for the berries.  After everything was glued down, I added glitter red dots.

I think I covered the color challenge well.....brown twig wreath, red ribbon and holly berries with green evergreen leaves.

Some day I will get good at taking photos because it really is pretty.

52 CCC April Theme Challenge-Santa!

This card took a bit longer to create than I thought it would.  No stamping on this card.  It is all die cut. It has the card base and 5 snow globe layers (2 layers cut with red and 3 with white) I used one of the white layers to fussy cut out the fur and beard for Santa.

This die set can be made as stand up 3D 6 x6 card but I wanted an A2 card because they are easier to mail.   I just cut each layer and stack them on top of each other.  Between the 2 top layers and the 2 bottom layers, I added pop dots to raise the words in the top section a bit higher off the Santa.  The Santa layer and very top layer was cut from red metallic cardstock and the other two from white.

I also cut small poinsettias to add a little decorations to the top.

TASFT-Nature Walk Weekend-Flowers

The last of the snow has melted and our flowers are beginning to pop up.  Some have even bloomed so Spring is here. For my Nature Walk Weekend inspiration, I am using flowers on my card today.

I have used the Momenta Intricate A2 Flower Mat Die before, but this time I had a difficult time with it.  I cut it out with white cardstock and used Distressed Oxide inks with blending brushes to add color.  I cut it out again with black cardstock and for some reason all the pieces would not cut through.  I am not sure if it was the cardstock I used or not.  My goal was to  glue it and add height to the top piece.  I finally said "If you can't fight em...join em" so I left the pieces that would not cut out and placed the colored piece right on top.

After it was done I stepped back and thought it was not to bad after all!

52 CCC April Color Challenge

This week is a color challenge at 52 CCT and the colors are Red and Green.  You can add white as well so my card base is all white.

I used Bibi Cameron's fold technique to get the criss cross in the front.

It is a very pretty card, with a mix of the sparkle and metallic poinsettia's.

Fancy Feathers

I recently watched a live class with Gina K.  You can see the recording here.   It was my first time watching her live and I really enjoyed her class.  I have been in a birthday card slump but after watching her class, I had a few ideas!  She used Stamp and Die set Fancy Feathers to create a card so I tried how she did it first.
My colors I used was Distress Ink colors cracked pistachio, twisted citron and mermaid lagoon.  The white, blue and green cardstock is just some I had in my scrap pile.  The white feather die cuts are two layers glued together.  I do not have a birthday sentiment on it yet as I am not sure who it will go to yet.  I really love the colors.  It goes along with the feeling Spring has Sprung!

My next 2 cards used the die but not the feather stamps.  I have a file with a bunch of backgrounds.  Most are just experiments that I saved.  You never know when something might work for a card I am making or to cut a word out.  I had played around with some Ken Oliver Color Burst one day so I pulled out one of the backgrounds I had saved.  I used it for the next two cards.
I also found a sprayed green and blue stencil background in my stash that was perfect for one of the cards.

I used the die to cut out some feathers from the color burst background.  I saved the parts that popped off the feather for my next card.  I also cut out some black feathers and saved the feather edge as well.
After figuring out where I wanted the feathers to be, I glued down each of the black pieces inside the feathers.  I thought it would take a long time to put all the pieces back but it went smooth.  The birthday layered die is from Paper Roses.  The Happy came from the Altenew Halftone Everything stamp set.

My last card came from the same pieces in the above card just in reverse for the feathers.  White circle was cut from My Favorite Things Inside & Out Stitch Circle die.  Dots are Stampendous Dot Sprarklers black stickers.  I love these are they are flat which makes it easier to mail.  The Hey words are stamps from Becky Moore Say It With Stamps Hey/Hello/Hi set.

Nice to have 3 more cards to add to my birthday list.

Winter and Polar Bear

This was a quick card to make.  Scrap Papers took care of this card...white cardstock and a blueish background with white dots.  I am considering them as snow and to top it off, I added one little cluster of snowflakes stamped in white.  A circle punch took care of moon and trees cut from Tim Holtz Set Merry Christmas.

Stamped the Recollections Polar Bear onto a scrap of white and even though a die came with the set, I cut it out with scissors. I was not sure if this was still available to buy, but I did find it at Amazon so you can see what it looks like. Copics colors BG11 and BG13 to lightly color the bear and scarf.  I hand cut the snowy hills and popped each layer from the one behind to give it a 3D look.  The hills also have the edge colored with BG11.

Thank you for stopping by.  Now...go get your scrap box out and use them up!

Junk Box Example

A few days ago I mentioned my junk-box.  All mistakes go into it for possible future use.  I wanted to show you how useful that junk box was....once again.

The background on this card was in that  junk-box and it was too pretty to leave in there.  When I had cut it out, the border was off and too skinny on one side.  I figured I might be able to cut a die out it or something so I saved it.  I decided I could use it and make another sympathy card by cutting an extra border for the edge to hide the mistake.  I glued the background down so it was centered on the card.  I glued the border down over the top of the background and now you can't see it was a mistake!  Border is now even all the way around and I have an extra sympathy card for my stash.

Keep your mistakes.  Some day you might find a treasure inside.
Have a great crafting day!

Season Has Begun

I wish I was referring to Christmas Season but I am not.  It is the season for banging out those Holiday cards but sadly it is also the season for Sympathy as well.

If you have followed my blog for at least a year, you have heard me talk about it.  For those of you who are new....for the past 15+ years I make and donate all the sympathy cards to a local nursing home throughout the year.   Thanksgiving through New Years is always the worse.  There has been some years where I had to switch off...one Christmas...one Sympathy.  Last year was not as busy, which was good for the nursing home.  Not many passed away thank goodness!
This season started early.

I was asked to make 3.  I better make a stack and be ready.

Here is what I made.

I recently picked up a die from Diesire called "Classic Floral Frame".  My first one did not cut out all the pieces so for the rest I shimmed with a piece of copy paper and it worked excellent.  It may be time to switch out my plates on my Big Shot.  The sentiment outside came from Stampin Up set "Walk in the Wild".  The bow, which I LOVE, is an Impression Obsession bow.  I topped it off with Stickles "True Blue" on some of the flower centers.

Thank you for stopping by!

So Many Dies

Wanted to show you all what I have been busy working on for the past week!  I have been working on re-organizing my dies every moment I could.  A task I have been avoiding because I was not sure what to do, but after much thought, I got a plan.

I used Avery Elle Stamp & Die Storage 5 5/8" x 7 3/8" Pockets.  I cut a piece of cardstock to fit inside the envelope and glued a  magnet on it.  The magnet size all depended on how many dies or how big the die was.  The magnets I used were the big sheets I got from Home Depot...made to cover the front of an air vent.  Worked perfect and much cheaper.   I used my Dymo to make the labels.
I was able to go from this........(4 shelves worth of cases and containers, bags, envelopes etc)....

to this.....(1/2 shelf).....

I have 2 envelopes left over so I just made it.  I was able to put 98 different sets of dies from many different companies into 60 envelopes and those all fit in one 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" container!

Here is the side view...

A couple of them have something a small magnet on the back if the dies did not all fit on the front but 98% of them are just on the front.  I wanted to make sure I had more supplies for future so I tried to order more today at Amazon but they are discontinued.  Avery came out with an envelope slightly larger than what I have which disappointed me because I like to keep everything the same.  After much searching I found another company that had the exact size and according to the write-ups, the envelopes are pretty close except the cost.  Much cheaper!

I went to Michael's and found the perfect containers I wanted to store them in.  They were on sale this week for only $4 and used to put a plant in.  The sides are straight and not slanted like most baskets and such.  They hold 60 envelopes in each.  There was only 3 available so I snatched all 3.

All the dies are now in my book
Manetta's Organized "A" to "Z" Book and Everything Between
so now I know exactly what I have for Dies and they are easy to find!

It feels good to get more organized in my room.  Some day I will be done...right?

*smiles*
