Highland Birthday

 When I saw this Highland Cow image at Kit and Clowder, I knew right away the birthday I was going to color it up for.  

The card I made is called a bridge card and the bridge part is the fence in front of the cow.  

I printed out the background on a full piece of light weight white cardstock and cut the pieces to fit and glue over each section. 

The bridge part was a fence image printed, flipped over as an opposite and printed again.  I fussy cut it  and glued the largest fence post to the right side and the left large fence post, leaving the center loose.  I pressed it flat to see where I needed to cut and match up the middle to attach at the perfect length. I was lucky that the both sides and the length I needed ended up being perfectly lined up where the two fence post met in the middle!

The Highland cow was large and I wanted it to be the focus of the card and the barn in the background.  The cow is glued to a crossbar to show distance between the fence and barn.

 The highland cow just looks like she is ready to go to a birthday party with her birthday hat of flowers on her head!

Definitely not your normal A2 card and it BARELY fits in the 6"x9"manila envelope.   The base was a 11"x 5 3/4" and the two sides were folded at 1 1/2" each. 

 

She got popped into the mail and on her way to wish a dear friend Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Bicycle Friend

Good morning and happy Saturday friends.  Thank you for stopping by.

I wanted to show you what I colored for a friend who loves to ride. 

 Her birthday is also on 4th of July so I have made her a card just about bikes, the look of 4th of July or combined the two holidays. She has a fancy bike but I thought she would get a kick out of this bike with the basket in the front.  

I put just a hint of sparkling glitter on the flowers. 

 I used one of the Kit and Clowder classes to help me to color and it was a huge help, especially when it came to the basket, tires and the metal shine of the bike.  

I find coloring so relaxing.

This will get popped into the mail for my friend today to make sure she receives it in time.

52CC-May Stash -Using up that Glitter

Use it up is the theme this week.  Those who know me well...knows full well how much stuff is in my craftroom that could be used up!

First thing I thought of was Jennifer Mcguire's video I watched a few weeks ago.  Use up that glitter was her theme. You can see it here on how she made her card...

It was very easy to follow and not that much of a mess.  The hardest part for me was to find a background die! Cut out the die and place it down onto a piece of cardstock that had an adhesive sheet on it.  Smash glitter into all the areas that was still open.  That was it!

 I had a piece of blue metallic cardstock left over from a project and white glitter from years ago that I used. I also found a package of Stampin Up Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets NEVER OPENED from several years ago too!  The white card base was also from my stash.  I had measured and put my fold on the wrong spot so I just stuck it in my pile to use up someday.  I made that work as my base.  It was very short on one side and I had enough of the blue metallic cardstock, so I placed a strip along the wider edge.

This card is so pretty.  Here is a close up so you can see the sparkle from all that glitter.  It looks like I used a glitter background but this way I am using up some of that glitter I have been hoarding for so long.

I had so much fun, I decided to make another one but this time for a birthday card.

I just love the look of the ink color and glitter on the background.

 

 

 

I started out with blending in the colors on the white cardstock..blue, yellow, orange and red.  Next layers are the adhesive, background die cut and then glitter.  I used the same step as the video.

It truly is pretty in person!

Letter D for Dragonfly Birthday

This will make a great Masculine birthday card I think and I have a few of those coming up over the summer.  I have enjoyed playing along with the Alphabet Challenge as it is giving me a chance to pull out stamps and supplies I have not used in a while!  

The boat, dragonfly and cattails image was all one stamped image on white cardstock.  I stamped in black and re-stamped again with Versamark so I could heat emboss.  I wanted it to stand out a little more than if I had just stamped it down flat.  I colored the image with my Copic Markers and fussy cut it out.  I printed the sun out with my computer and used Copic markers for the water.  I also added a touch of white pen to resemblance a few small waves.  Next I glued down the image.  I randomly stamped cattails along the bottom, Happy Birthday at the top and another small dragonfly with black ink.  I was so glad I recently picked up a new set of Happy Birthday Stamps as the hollow one from the set worked perfect. I wanted to be able to see the sun in part of it.  

Of course, it's a birthday card and birthday cards needs some sort of glitter/sparkle so the wings have a small amount of glitter on them.

It took two tries to get the sun printed the right size but overall I am very happy with how it came out.

Now done with letter D and I can't wait for letter E.

TASFT May Challenge- Hoppy Birthday

This challenge is the whole month of May challenge.  We had a choice of sketch or Mermaids.  I chose the sketch.

 

 

 

I did not have a background stamp that had birthday words on it so I just used torn copy paper along the edge and kept moving the stamp down.

 I found the image in my computer from long ago and it worked great.  To finish it off, I added a little sparkle because birthdays always have to have some sparkle on it!

 

I used my computer to type and print the sentiment strips.

Letter A & C Challenge

Part One

The current letter is C for Cats for the Alphabet Challenge Blog

I did not have a cat image and I need more Christmas Cards to add to my stash so I was lucky to find the perfect digital image Kitten in Christmas Present to purchase.  

I used Copic markers  (B000, B21, B23) for the blue background.  Prismapencils was for the image (Carmine Red, Crimson Red, Golden Rod, Apple Green, Dark Green, Seashell Pink,Burnt Ochre,Sienna Brown and Blender Pencil).

I used Nuvo Crystal drops Ivory Seashell for the snow.  Nuvo Glitter drops White Blizzard on the ribbon and Christmas bulb for the glitter.

Seasons Greetings came from Christmas Blessings Set.

Part Two

Letter A (playing catch up)

 I wanted to start at the beginning of the alphabet challenge and continue playing along to keep caught up. Lucky I was only one alphabet off and that was the letter "A".  I think this card would have been acceptable!  I made this for my grandson's 3rd birthday.  Just a bunch of handcutting with sissors, white pen and circle punches! For his nose, I used a flower ball tool to round it out and used a lot of glue underneath to keep it somewhat rounded in the mail.

Emboss it, Drag It, Glue It, Mail It

I just love this card but of course brown and blues are my all time favorite combo.  The folder I used is absolutely beautiful even left with just white cardstock but I felt like experimenting.  Remember, it is a 3D folder so you need to mist the cardstock lightly with water before you emboss.  That will stop the cardstock from cracking.

  Once dried (only a few moments), I used the Simon Hurley Lunar Paste and a paint brush to color in the flowers.  I didn't like it so I tried dragging the ink pad over it to see how the colored flowers would look then.  Still didn't like it so it went in the trash.  Next I dragged the ink pad across another white embossed cardstock, going down and across until I was satisfied with the look.  All total I think I dragged it like 10 times.  

Look at that detail on those flowers!!

 

 I love how it just made the flowers pop but to me it still needed some color.  Since I had the Lunar Paste out, I tried brushing it in the center and that did it for me.  Just enough color.  I put the dots back in the flower with a sepia pen as they were were filled in with paste.  I cut a white mat and just finger colored the edge of the mat with paste and on a white scrap for the flag.  Happy Birthday was glued down flat but the flag was raised up with pop dots.

The Simon Hurley paste has such a pretty metallic shine to it so I took another picture with a bit stronger light to show you the shine it gives off on all the blue.  It is so pretty and shiny!

 

There is a trick that I have used for years with all my sentiment dies.  I cut out all the sentiments in the set and space them out on a laminate sheet to preserve them for future use. The sheet, once done fits in the holder I have for that die set to keep them together. I place the laminated sheet on the card to get an idea if it will fit with what I want.  It has been really helpful to me over the years so I wanted to share the tidbit with you.

This card is actually a very simple card and you do not need a ton of supplies to create it.  If you are looking to make a fast but pretty card, then give this technique a try!  Emboss, drag, glue and mail.

TASFT-Nature Walk Weekend-Flowers

The last of the snow has melted and our flowers are beginning to pop up.  Some have even bloomed so Spring is here. For my Nature Walk Weekend inspiration, I am using flowers on my card today.

 I have used the Momenta Intricate A2 Flower Mat Die before, but this time I had a difficult time with it.  I cut it out with white cardstock and used Distressed Oxide inks with blending brushes to add color.  I cut it out again with black cardstock and for some reason all the pieces would not cut through.  I am not sure if it was the cardstock I used or not.  My goal was to  glue it and add height to the top piece.  I finally said "If you can't fight em...join em" so I left the pieces that would not cut out and placed the colored piece right on top.

After it was done I stepped back and thought it was not to bad after all!

Fancy Feathers

I recently watched a live class with Gina K.  You can see the recording here.   It was my first time watching her live and I really enjoyed her class.  I have been in a birthday card slump but after watching her class, I had a few ideas!  She used Stamp and Die set Fancy Feathers to create a card so I tried how she did it first. 

My colors I used was Distress Ink colors cracked pistachio, twisted citron and mermaid lagoon.  The white, blue and green cardstock is just some I had in my scrap pile.  The white feather die cuts are two layers glued together.  I do not have a birthday sentiment on it yet as I am not sure who it will go to yet.  I really love the colors.  It goes along with the feeling Spring has Sprung!

 

My next 2 cards used the die but not the feather stamps.  I have a file with a bunch of backgrounds.  Most are just experiments that I saved.  You never know when something might work for a card I am making or to cut a word out.  I had played around with some Ken Oliver Color Burst one day so I pulled out one of the backgrounds I had saved.  I used it for the next two cards.

I also found a sprayed green and blue stencil background in my stash that was perfect for one of the cards. 

 

I used the die to cut out some feathers from the color burst background.  I saved the parts that popped off the feather for my next card.  I also cut out some black feathers and saved the feather edge as well.

  After figuring out where I wanted the feathers to be, I glued down each of the black pieces inside the feathers.  I thought it would take a long time to put all the pieces back but it went smooth.  The birthday layered die is from Paper Roses.  The Happy came from the Altenew Halftone Everything stamp set.

 

My last card came from the same pieces in the above card just in reverse for the feathers.  White circle was cut from My Favorite Things Inside & Out Stitch Circle die.  Dots are Stampendous Dot Sprarklers black stickers.  I love these are they are flat which makes it easier to mail.  The Hey words are stamps from Becky Moore Say It With Stamps Hey/Hello/Hi set.

 

Nice to have 3 more cards to add to my birthday list.

Fall Anniversary and Birthday Cards

 I had a lot of fun making these three cards.  Fall is my favorite season.  I miss seeing all the color of the leaves since I live in Florida so I really enjoyed making these.  

These were already popped into the mail so hopefully they will be enjoyed soon!

Birthday Cards

 Just a quick post as I wanted to share a couple of Birthday cards I made recently.

This card had a mask along the edge so when I stamped, it would leave a white edge. I was so happy to find in my stash, some green string, ink and background paper that all matched.  The leaves were inked with a bit darker ink to stand out more.

The flower background, on the card below, was cut out twice and glued together to stand out more.  I saved the flower pieces to stuff back into the flowers with just one layer so it was down into the flower.  A little bit more work but I liked the look.

I have a few more to add but will leave that for another day!

Card Making Day 2020

 Last night I wanted to post my cards I made for Card Making Day but I had lost my mojo and went to bed early!

I got a couple of birthday cards done and Christmas cards.

I think it was a great day yesterday!

With the Christmas Cards, I used some embossing paste and stencils from Altenew to create backgrounds.  I got these done and while they were drying I worked on the birthday cards posted above.  The pine cones background was actually used two stencils.  I have one more background but I am saving that one for a Christmas card I will do later.

Enjoyed my day so much I may continue today!

The Outlawz Color Challenge with a Twist

 I have been working the birthday cards really hard this past week and I hit a brain freeze.  No ideas came to mind so I turned to The Outlawz to challenge my brain.  First thing I came to was a Color Challenge with a twist.  The twist was to add one butterfly.  I opened my stamp and die book and my eyes fell on the Die'sire "Lace Butterfly" die.  I used shimmer white cardstock and cut out the die.  I placed the die cut over plain white cardstock to see where the wings and center of the. butterfly was.  I used a sponge and sponged on one color of the Distress Oxide where the wings would be,  another where the body was and one more all around the edges.

The challenge was to use at least 3 of the colors offered.

I took a photo of the colors I used plus I used the dark purple for the card base and matted the words with the dark purple as well.

UPDATE:   I started another one ...same idea and I messed up.   I pulled it back out and was able to fix it.  I actually like it better! 

Off to go post it at the The Outlawz Challenge site and probably take a look around to see what else I can do!
