52 CCT May Sketch Challenge

Christmas comes just once a year but as you can tell from my blog....it's Christmas here in my craft room year long. 

 Designing a card isn't hard however there are times when we all get that crafting block.  You can stare at papers, dies and stamps  forever and not a single idea pops into your head.
.  Each week, at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown,  we help you out with samples and ideas to get you started.  
This week it is a sketch.  
A sketch is just a guide or a suggestion and just gives you a base to start from.  Remember, you can flip it any way you desire!  

Here is my version!

I used left over scraps for my card so I cannot tell you what company they came from.  I even found the stars still stuck in the die!  I am into using scraps these days and are my go-to lately.  The silver trees are a punch from Stampin Up.  I was lucky to find the right colors of thin yarn from years ago.

52 CCT March Sketch Challenge

 

Today's challenge is a sketch challenge for 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

 Once in a while, I will print out images that are in color.  This image came from Treasure Box Designs and was a free image a few years ago so I am not sure if they still have it or not.  You should check out the site.  She has some nice images to work with!

 I printed the image out twice and hand cut a whole image and parts of the 2nd image.  I popped up the belly, face & scarf area.  Glossy accents was placed over the belly, eyes, nose and ribbon.  Some of it was sprinkled with fine glitter.

 I will let it dry overnight before I add it to my Christmas pile.  It is a good feeling each time I add a card into it!

What is a sketch?  

A sketch is just a great way to get an idea when you are making a card.  They even have them for scrapbooks layouts too.  I have even taken a scrapbook sketch and made a card out of it and vice versa.  You can flip them...turn them sideways...upside down...whatever you want!  If you are stuck, they are a great way to get you unstuck and the ideas flowing.

Outlawz Happy Easter Challenge

Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

It is time for another The Outlawz Progressive Challenge and it is an Easter image...perfect for today.  The cute bunny on my card is a digital image from Gerda Steiner Designs.  Thank you Gerda for sharing it with us!  I had a lot of fun coloring this image. 

 The egg behind the bunny was an image I found on the internet from a kids free coloring page.  I just loaded it into Microsoft Word and brought it down to the size I wanted.  After coloring it with copics, I put a little bit of stickles on it to give it a little glitter look.

The bunny was colored with Copics, cut out and glued down onto a piece of white foam.  After it dried I cut it out again and glued it down onto the egg so it would be popped up like the bunny was sitting in front of the egg.  The glasses has crystal glaze to make it look like thick glasses.  I noticed after taking the picture that it was not quite dry in the center.  I think I have it so thick it is going to be an overnighter!  

  I used a Sweet Sunday Card Sketch to help me design the card.

Christmas Cards Keep on Coming..

One thing about making my own cards, is the Christmas card making can't end at the end of the Holiday season.  I have to constantly keep them going all year or I would never get them done in time. But Christmas cards are fun to make so I do not care at all!

Because I have to keep motivated, I joined a few challenges to help me.  

This one was a bit challenging.  I had to do use only card plus one layer and a sketch.  Here is the sketch I used to go with the one layer.

Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch's 1, 2 and 3

I started working Splitcoaststampers sketches.  You can find the entire list on Splitcoaststampers card sketches page.  I got the 1st three done.  Not sure how far I will get but when I need some motivation, I can always turn to the sketches!  

The 1st two were done and mailed off at Christmas Time but I didn't get around to sharing them.  The 3rd sketch I did today...a birthday card for my stash.

Sketch Challenge #5-Christmas Snowman

It was time for Christmas card and another sketch.  Wow, all these challenges are keeping me going...getting a lot done!

Here is the sketch I used.

The paper I used came from Stampin Up paper pak called Winter Frost.  The snowman is an old Stampin Up stamp.  Christmas tree is s sizzix die.  For the snow sparkle I used stickles!  Very easy to do

One challenge I have is cutting the strips and then taping them down so they are even width. I did mine a different way.

I cut my pieces the length I wanted but the width I was not too particular.  The piece I wanted in the middle was actually matted.  I then glued down the right and left strips with the edge about the same as the mat on the middle strip.  I then placed the middle strip down.  Now they are look like they are all centered correctly!

For the snow along the bottom I ripped white paper.  

I don't recall ever paper piecing before but it fit well for this one.  I stamped the snowman on white cardstock.  The hat and scarf was stamped on a small piece of scrap paper.  I did not stamp the whole snowman. I just wanted those pieces.  I cut them out as well as the buttons.  Glued them on the snowman.  Cut the whole image out to glue down on the card.  With the hat, scarf and buttons matching the background just made the whole card flow and come together real well!

Sketch Challenge #4-Butterfly Sympathy

Butterflies galore!

Well...3 anyway lol.  

My first attemp was a flop.  I did not get them even at all.  For the second attempt, I drew a light pencil mark across the card and it helped...still a little off but that is ok!  I stamped the first butterfly from a Martha Stewarts clear rubber stamp set and stamped that in the middle of the card with versamark.  The left and right butterflies were matched up wing tip to wing tip and the bottom of the wings were set along the pencil line.  I used heat embossed the images and sponged Versafine Majestic Blue all over it.  

This is the sketch from Challenge #4 that is used.

I used a ruler to draw another light pencil light where I wanted the blue to end and I cut along that line but going around the butterflies.  

I had a scrap piece of paper that had like a blue crackle paint on it.  It looked perfect for the bottom half.  

Thanking of you sentiment is one of the stamps in the Stampin Up Wet Lands set.

I am going sympathy, Christmas and birthday so I don't get dragged down by too many birthday or too many sympathy.  This way it also gets my Christmas cards started.  So far it is working!

Sketch Challenge #2 & #3-Birthdays

Yesterday I worked hard to get caught up on some challenges and it was not a good day at all for me!  Everything I made was not my best.  My sister and I like to Skype as we craft the day away.  I love it.  It is like the old days when we lived in the same town and got together once a month and crafted.  Yesterday was one of those days.  We like to have show-n-tell on the cards we made.  I showed her one card I made and the expression on her face was priceless!  Without a word I knew she was thinking exactly what I was thinking....the card stunk!  LOL  

Needless to say...that card is in the junk pile.  Maybe someday I might find something on it salvageable!

PMS Scrapbook Sketch

Recently I went to a PMS Party Crop which meant any of the following....

Pizza, Margaritas & Scrapbooking

Pajamas, Music & Stamps

Prizes, Make & Takes, Service Project

What a BLAST!!!  (Thanks Lisa!)

It began at 9am and went until everyone was too tired..9pm or later.

We were all given a Scrapbook Layout Sketch to make using the supplies we happen to have brought with us.  I have not scrapbooked for over 2 years and was not prepared to scrapbook anything that day.  I had planned to make birthday cards so I brought everything to do with birthdays but I thought I would give it a go....even without pictures to put on the page.  At 7:00pm all the scrapbook layouts were assigned a number and we all got to vote which one we liked the best.  

I WON!!!

I happen to have a layered butterfly punch so I put a few on it with popped up wings.  The flower design was paper I had so I cut them out and made them 3-D as well.   It really got me in the scrapbook fever...perhaps I will actually get a few pages done this year!

I wanted to make another Birthday card using this sketch but I had a difficult time with this one. I kept flipping it over and over until I settled on "upside down" which is really not upside.  Any which way works great!

I am very disappointed.  I ran out of Stamping Up Crystal Effects so I used something similar that I bought at the store awhile ago.  I am at the tale end of it and I am disappointed at how yellow it turned after it dried.  

Needless to say....I will not be using up the end of that bottle on anything...it is sitting in the trash.

Happy New Year! Mojo Monday #274

Well, here it is...2013.  What happened to 2012?  

I do know that 2012 in most ways, was the best year I have had in a long time (health-wise).  So... my New Years Resolution for 2013 is to continue working on being healthy and have another good year!  

Another resolution is follow Mojo Monday blog and participate in the sketch challenges for the entire year.  That will give me an additional 52 cards created on top of what I normally do and it will keep me blogging.   If you want to follow along as well...click this link--Mojo Monday.

1st Sketch

Here is my take on the card sketch!

Alos, yesterday I wanted to make a Thank you card for a Christmas Gift I got from a friend....a cover for my laptop.  Love it!!  To make the snow fall, I used a toothbrush and very wet paint....a trick I learned many many years ago from my oil painting teacher.  All you have to do is take white paint that is not thick..rub the toothbrush in the paint.....raise the brush up above the card with the bristles facing the card...run your thumb along the bristles and the paint will flick off the brush and fall onto the card.

World Card Making Day Creations

I joined a couple of challenges for World Card Making Day. This challenge was to use one or more inches. Love this house mouse set.


 


This Challenge was to keep it simple. I just stamped and embossed on navy card stock.

This Challenge we had to use this ad as inspiration. I looked at the colors..that it is night time and there are stars.

I have more cards that I did this weekend which I will share later. I am pretty please with what I got done this weekend. Hope you had as much fun as I did on World Card Making day!

Christmas Card #1-Sketch Challenge

The yahoo group I belong to had a sketch challenge in July and I am JUST getting around to making my card.

I realized over the weekend that there is ONLY about 90 days left to make my Christmas cards before I start labeling them to be mailed out. That means I have to make an average of one Christmas card a day!!! EEEKKKKK Where did the year go!!!

I decided I might as well turn this sketch into a Christmas Card

We have several of the cutest Christmas Mice Stamp sets at Stamping Palace.

The Mice Set I chose to use for this card is called Lighten Up Mouse Set. I stamped my card with Momento Tuxedo Black, which is a perfect dye ink that will not bleed when you color your image with an alcohol based marker like Copics. Each light bulb has a drop of stickle to make it sparkle a different color. The icicle is from a batch that I made last year and am still using up. Inside the card are words from the same set-"Rejoice in this season of light and love". To make the icicle border requires only 3 items Liquid Glue that will dry clear Fine Glitter Wax paper Directions Tilt your wax paper so your glue will slowly drip down to form icicles as you run a line of glue along the top of the wax paper about the length of your card. Do not put too much glue as your "icicle" will become too thick. You can always go back and add a bit more glue to an icicle to make it run a little longer. Remember-icicles are not the same size. Now cover the icicles with fine glitter and shake off the extra. Let dry over night and then you will be able to slowly peal the glue icicle off the wax paper. I stored mine after they dried in a box. Last year I was able to make several lines of icicles on big sheet of wax paper and I am still using them up. Ok...now I am off to go make the next Christmas card.....
